Artificial intelligence is a subject that captures the imagination of many people. Of course, this is largely due to the numerous Hollywood movies that have been made about this subject. However, a rising number of worrying claims have appeared on artificial intelligence, which has been fueled by the qualitative growth surge of this new technology. These reports are almost always overstated, but despite this, there has been an increasing number of them. However, recent information presented at a press conference by a well-known journalist and a Stanford University alumnus has left the entire world in utter disbelief. What exactly did she say that took everyone by surprise, and what does this mean for the development of AI in the future? Autonomous weapons, also known as "killer robots," are military robots that can search for and aim at targets autonomously based on pre-programmed instructions. And almost every technologically advanced country in the world is working on developing these robots. Indeed, a senior executive at a Chinese defense company stated that future wars would not be fought by humans and that the use of lethal autonomous weapons was inevitable. However, having these weapons poses numerous risks. What if they go rogue and kill innocent people? What if they can't tell the difference between their targets and innocent people and kill them by mistake? Who would then be held accountable for the situation? An even bigger issue would arise if these "killer robots" are developed by governments that have no regard for human life. Then destroying these robots would be quite difficult! With these issues in mind, it was decided in 2018 that autonomous robots would still require a final command from a human before attacking. However, as technology advances, this problem may become exponentially worse.

I’m sure you’ve all heard about IBM. They’re one of the pioneers of the PC industry, but nowadays, virtually no one uses IBM computers. Yet, IBM is still one of the largest companies in the world with a market cap of over $100 billion, so how does IBM even make money? Well, throughout IBM’s history, they were almost always a B2B company as opposed to a consumer brand. This is quite ironic given that they’re most well known for their PCs in the 1980s, but this was actually the exception for IBM, not the norm. After the dot-com bubble burst, IBM sold off its PC division to Lenovo and they started focusing on their B2B business once again. This consisted of producing server racks, networks, databases, and setting up cloud infrastructure. All of these background functions allowed IBM to rise to prominence once again, but with the rise of competition within these markets, IBM is struggling once again. Their revenues have nearly halved within the past 10 years and it’s not clear if they can compete against the juggernauts like Amazon and Microsoft. Throwback Thursday way back to 1986! Say hi to CGA! Update! I finally beat this game. So glad to finally close this chapter of my life. Complete after ~40 years. Back when computers were very limited in color, and pixels are huge, my brothers I often play Round 42. 42 rounds of pixelated alien invaderesque fun! On our IBM PC-XT, with 4 color CGA monitor, most of the games are 4 colors: Black White, and either ugly red and green, or cyan and white. Somehow, this game got all of these colors! The game was hard, and the final enemy of each round moves ridiculously fast. Then we found that F2 fires the zapper weapon :P

A "spurt" sound isn't something you ever want to hear from your monitor... I knew I wasn't going to get away with leaving it shifting between blue and red for long, but I didn't think it would be this short. If I had seen the cap on the connector board for the CRT initially then I wouldn't have had to take the whole thing apart. But I kind of wanted to get an overview of what was going on inside anyway so I don't mind the extra work having been put in. But if yours blows a color cap you can easily avoid the most difficult part of removing the tube. I'm happy with how this turned out. I will be getting better capacitors later for it, but it isn't a rush. I think I made all the colors a bit dim on the adjustment on the back of the tube. That's probably why it seemed so much darker afterwards. Really, I should have done the calibrations at about 75% brightness. Oh well, it's not too difficult to get to that so I can always fix it later. Well it's working and booting off the CF drive to MS-DOS 6.22. Couldn't get a picture out of the CGA board's composite RCA output or DE9 CGA port ... but then I didn't RTFM either.
