During the ceremony, Firefighter Christopher Howard, 31, of Engine 255 in Brooklyn met the recipient of his lifesaving bone marrow, John Ciempa, 66, from Lakeland, Florida. And another FDNY Firefighter — Billy Zask Jr., of Squad 288 in Queens — was reunited with the recipient of his bone marrow donations -- Alex Maldonado, 9, of Puerto Rico. Alex was just 2 years old when he received his bone marrow transplant. "The FDNY and NYBC's combined efforts make a tremendous impact in our community," said Mr. Milstein. For reference Apple is 1.3 trillion… So these companies are small in comparison, but a $200 million dollar company can still be a great company. See I think there is great opportunity in this space. So the small cap Chinese stocks are left for small investors. And the company that I found that I’m going to investigate today is called Global Cord Blood Group. This company stores umbilical cord blood stem cells and operates in three regions of China. Umbilical cord stem cells are far better than bone marrow stem cells and far easier to collect. because when a baby is born, the umbilical cord is right there with the baby. It is then cryogenically frozen and stored in a storage facility. Now I find lots of potential hidden gems, so I have to see if the company has a good strong competitive advantage. For Global Cord Blood Corporation I found some great ones! There are seven major regions in China and the government has only issued 1 license per region. Global Cord Blood Corporation has 3 of the 7 licenses. So they are a monopoly in these regions. But there are some risks associated with this business as well. There is currently a takeover offer on the table. With is good and bad. The offer is to buy the company from a Singapore based business. A take over offer is normally a good thing for shareholders as it increases the value of the shares to be close to the offer price. In this case the offer from the Singapore company is to buy Global Cord Blood Corp at $7 a share, which is far higher than the current price. By the end of the year we will know if the deal happens, and we don’t know what the Singapore companies intentions are. Maybe they keep it running as normal, or maybe it changes things a lot. It's another unknown. There are some stable and risky elements here. So the finances will help us decide more about the company. But honestly, I think it could be because it’s a Chinese company. I have always had this issue with Chinese companies and trusting them. I have been to change and worked in China before, so I’m not completely naive. Chinese business culture is different and bribes do happen. It is possible that any company could bribe the auditors to show better financial results than what is actually real. This company is in a fantastic financial position and operates a great business model. So I have to make a risk reward scenario. Let’s say that the share price goes back to its typical price/book value at 1.7 (which it was 12 months ago) That would be nearly a 200% increase. I think that is reasonable, but there is even far more upside than that. Remember my first buy point? It was $7.97. Thats about a 300% increase from current price. I think that is still an totally ok price to invest more. And the downside is I lose 100%. It goes to 0, which I think is highly unlikely unless all the financials are a lie. So it seems obvious that I should put a little bit of money into this investment, an amount that I would be happy to lose, but enough so that I get a meaningful return. To summarise, Small cap companies are more risky, and small cap Chinese stocks also have extra risk as well. But in some cases this is where the best opportunities are.
