IBM CDO/CTO Summit S3Ep3 "Data Fabric: Delivering on Your Data Strategy" (June 15 2022)
MY SILO
DESCRIPTION:
One of the most difficult parts of data strategy isn’t developing it, but executing on it. Growth in data sprawl and volume, diverse ecosystems, and varied existing management systems lead to enterprise data going unused. How can a data fabric architecture help you get the right data to the right people at the right time, driving better decision-making across your organization? A data fabric is an architectural approach to simplify data access in an organization. It helps enterprises solve complex data problems by providing consistent, standard practices and capabilities, as well as seamless access, management, and sharing of data in a distributed data storage environment across various applications, platforms, locations, clouds, data centers, and edge systems. Key elements and benefits of data fabric include automated governance, faster and more accurate insights, and a holistic view across your data landscape. Learn more about data fabric and how it enables organizations to use data to its full potential: https://www.ibm.com/topics/data-fabric IBM CDO/CTO Summit “Data Fabric: Delivering on Your Data Strategy” featuring the following speakers: - Akshay Krishnaswamy: Chief Architect + Commercial Lead at Palantir Technologies - Mark Clare: Former Enterprise Head of Data Strategy and Enablement at Evernorth/Cigna - Sham Kashikar: Global Head of Analytics & Data Management at Meta/Facebook - Priya Krishnan: Director Product Mgmnt, Data Governance, Data Privacy, Data Science at IBM - Ram Venkatesh: Chief Technology Officer at Cloudera - Inderpal Bhandari: Global Chief Data Officer at IBM - Timothy Humphrey: Vice President, Chief Data Office at IBM - David Mathison: CEO at CDO Club/CDO Summit (moderator) Together with you, we’ll explore: - Why is it so critical to have in place a data strategy before you address the technology architecture? - What does it take to craft a thoughtful and impactful data strategy that drives business results? - What is a data fabric? What’s its unique value and how is it different from other solutions like a data mesh or data lake house? - What are some examples of a data fabric in action? David Amzallag & Szymon Klarman - Knowledge Mesh: From Data Silos to Data Fabric at Global 2000 Co's
MY SILO
DESCRIPTION:
Knowledge Mesh: From Data Silos to Data Fabric at Global 2000 Enterprises A talk by David Amzallag and Szymon Klarman, BlackSwan Technologies SPEAKER EXPERTISE David Amzallag is the Chief Product Officer and Chief Digital Transformation Officer of BlackSwan Technologies, a company that is reinventing enterprise software through a fusion of data, artificial intelligence and cloud technologies that provides unparalleled business value. A common go-to data strategy adopted in large, data-intensive enterprises, is based on creation of centralized, monolithic data platforms, such as data warehouses or data lakes. Such platforms are well-known for their many limitations and lack of long-term sustainability: growing stale data silos, loss of ownership and domain context of data assets, and organizational bottlenecks around highly specialized data engineering teams. The ultimate outcome is the increase of the cost of effective data utilization within the enterprise. Data fabric is a design concept combining multiple modern data management technologies aimed towards supporting “frictionless access and sharing of data in a distributed network environment” (Gartner). Knowledge Mesh, a recent product delivered by BlackSwan Technologies, is an implementation of the data fabric architecture, consisting of domain-driven metadata and (meta)data management and integration tools aimed to maximize the effectiveness of data utilization in knowledge graph applications in different domains. In this presentation we will: - Introduce BlackSwan Technologies with its core technology vision and offering - Describe the challenges involved in 360-degree entity view use-cases at Global 2000 enterprises - Explain how enterprise knowledge graphs (EKG) help addressing these challenges - Introduce the concept of data fabric via its implementation as Knowledge Mesh, and argue for its capabilities of scaling and automating EKG development in multiple domains

DESCRIPTION:
In this webinar, we’ll look at some Data Architecture practices that have emerged in the past few years and are being consciously worked into many enterprise data programs. These are keepers and it will be required that we move towards them, so it’s best to mindfully work them into the environment. Data mesh is a subdividing of the enterprise Data Architecture into subsystems manageable by non-central teams. The data fabric is a metadata-driven always-on data and pipeline manager. The data lakehouse integrates the data warehouse and the data lake. The data cloud brings widespread data to bear in a single platform. Learn more in this session and determine which, if any, will provide value to your architecture objectives.

Data Fabric Roundtable Event presented by Info-Tech Research Group, IBM, Accuras, DecisionBrain
MY SILO
DESCRIPTION:
For many enterprises today, operational data has largely remained siloed and hidden, leading to an enormous amount of dark data. As organizations seek to leverage their data, they encounter challenges resulting from diverse data sources, types, structures, environments, and platforms. This multidimensional data predicament is further complicated when organizations adopt hybrid and multi-cloud architectures. The Data Fabric is an emerging architecture that aims to address the data challenges arising out of a hybrid data landscape. Its fundamental idea is to strike a balance between decentralization and globalization by acting as the virtual connective tissue between data endpoints to: - Help reduce the number of data copies by virtually connecting data end points and simplifying access pattern over any data - Provide and activate global automatic policy enforcement for increased data protection and quality - Utilize augmentation of integration governance, and active metadata to enable a dynamic, intelligent, and automated data orchestration - Provide automatic enrichment to contextualize data with semantics and knowledge Listen to roundtable session recording hosted by; - Irina Sedenko, Research Director, Data & Analytics, Info-tech Research Group - Igor Ikonnikov, Research Director, Data & Analytics, Info-tech Research Group - Charla Stracener, Global Technology Industry Engineering - Manufacturing & Energy, IBM - Filippo Focacci, Co-founder & CEO, DecisionBrain, IBM Data & AI Partner - Murat Guvenc, Managing Director, Accuras Inc, IBM Data & AI partner

Such computers used to be referred to as PC clones, or IBM clones. They duplicate almost exactly all the significant features of the PC architecture, facilitated by IBM's choice of commodity hardware components and various manufacturers' ability to reverse engineer the BIOS firmware using a "clean room design" technique. Columbia Data Products built the first clone of the IBM personal computer by a clean room implementation of its BIOS.Early IBM PC compatibles used the same computer bus as the original PC and AT models. The IBM AT compatible bus was later named the Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) bus by manufacturers of compatible computers. The term "IBM PC compatible" is now a historical description only, since IBM has ended its personal computer sales. Descendants of the IBM PC compatibles comprise the majority of personal computers on the market presently with the dominant operating system being Microsoft Windows, although interoperability with the bus structure and peripherals of the original PC architecture may be limited or non-existent. Some computers ran MS-DOS but had enough hardware differences that IBM compatible software could not be used; examples include slight differences in the memory map, serial ports or video hardware. Only the Macintosh kept significant market share without compatibility with the IBM PC.

How Is IBM Even Still Around?
MY SILO
DESCRIPTION:
I’m sure you’ve all heard about IBM. They’re one of the pioneers of the PC industry, but nowadays, virtually no one uses IBM computers. Yet, IBM is still one of the largest companies in the world with a market cap of over $100 billion, so how does IBM even make money? Well, throughout IBM’s history, they were almost always a B2B company as opposed to a consumer brand. This is quite ironic given that they’re most well known for their PCs in the 1980s, but this was actually the exception for IBM, not the norm. After the dot-com bubble burst, IBM sold off its PC division to Lenovo and they started focusing on their B2B business once again. This consisted of producing server racks, networks, databases, and setting up cloud infrastructure. All of these background functions allowed IBM to rise to prominence once again, but with the rise of competition within these markets, IBM is struggling once again. Their revenues have nearly halved within the past 10 years and it’s not clear if they can compete against the juggernauts like Amazon and Microsoft. This video explains the rise, fall, rise again, and fall again of IBM. (IBM-PC DOS) Round 42 - Elven Software / Mike Pooler 1986 - COMPLETE AFTER ~ 42 years!
MY SILO
DESCRIPTION:
Throwback Thursday way back to 1986! Say hi to CGA! Update! I finally beat this game. So glad to finally close this chapter of my life. Complete after ~40 years. Back when computers were very limited in color, and pixels are huge, my brothers I often play Round 42. 42 rounds of pixelated alien invaderesque fun! On our IBM PC-XT, with 4 color CGA monitor, most of the games are 4 colors: Black White, and either ugly red and green, or cyan and white. Somehow, this game got all of these colors! The game was hard, and the final enemy of each round moves ridiculously fast. Then we found that F2 fires the zapper weapon :P

IBM 5153 CGA Monitor Simple Recap
MY SILO
DESCRIPTION:
A "spurt" sound isn't something you ever want to hear from your monitor... I knew I wasn't going to get away with leaving it shifting between blue and red for long, but I didn't think it would be this short. If I had seen the cap on the connector board for the CRT initially then I wouldn't have had to take the whole thing apart. But I kind of wanted to get an overview of what was going on inside anyway so I don't mind the extra work having been put in. But if yours blows a color cap you can easily avoid the most difficult part of removing the tube. I'm happy with how this turned out. I will be getting better capacitors later for it, but it isn't a rush. I think I made all the colors a bit dim on the adjustment on the back of the tube. That's probably why it seemed so much darker afterwards. Really, I should have done the calibrations at about 75% brightness. Oh well, it's not too difficult to get to that so I can always fix it later. Digital öppen gästföreläsning om AI med Patrick Couch, IBM
MY SILO
DESCRIPTION:
Välkommen att delta på en öppen gästföreläsning om AI: "Language, Thinking and the Alchemy of Learning Machines: An introduction to the possibilities & challenges with Artificial Intelligence" med Patrick Couch , Business Developer focused on Artificial Intelligence & Cognitive Technologies IBM. "Today, we live in a world which is in many regards digital first. Even seemingly non-digital events and phenomena such as the Corona pandemic, the US election and the democracy movement in Hong Kong are defined, understood and judged digitally first and only in an analog way secondly. Data and algorithms have come to inhabit a central place in our world and we now very much live in a world determined by the successes and failures of our technologies to understand us humans. Our social media feeds, our news feeds, our financial credibility, our entertainment, our shopping, our dating are all facilitated by data crunching algorithms doing their best to please. Obviously, this makes for great possibilities but also poses significant challenges. In this digitally defined world stands the developer, who like an alchemist conjures up new digital vistas for the rest of us to enter into, revel in and be challenged by. In the light of this, I will introduce the topic of artificial intelligence and the need to adress it intelligently."
