Class III Class III safety cabinet for Risk Group 4 viruses This type of cabinet is totally enclosed and is tested under pressure to ensure that no particles can leak from it into the room. The operator works with gloves which form part of the cabinet. Air enters through a filter and is exhausted to atmosphere through one or two more filters.

Aerosol challenge test verifies the integrity of the filter media, housing, and seals thus ensuring that the cabinet can provide maximum operator, product, and cross-contamination protection. The video shows a test carried out using a photometer and an aerosol generator. The photometer is connected to the cabinet upstream sampling port to check the concentration of the aerosol challenge (PAO) before the filters. The probe of the photometer is then used to scan after the filter. The perimeter of the downflow filter is scanned first. The main area of the downflow filter is then scanned using slightly overlapping strokes. In actual testing, scanning is slower for accuracy. Finally, the main area of the exhaust filter is scanned.
