Using a passive structure to transduce the quantity of interest into an acoustic or electromagnetic wave could offer a remote sensing solution, lifting the requirements of installing active materials, electronics, and power sources in remote, inaccessible, sensitive, or harsh environment locations. Here, we report a simple cavity and ball structure that transduces fluid flow through a pipe into an acoustic signal. A microphone records the sound pulses generated by collisions between the ball and the cavity walls. External measurement of flow is demonstrated with adequate repeatability before any signal processing. Upon deflection the microstructure blocks incident light. The light is focused in the center of the microchannel by integrated waveguides with lenses. Applied flow rates from 50 µl/min to 300 µl/min can be determined measuring a decrease of the transmitted light power through the sensor chip using a photodetector. The microstructure acts as sensor element in a channel. On the silicon chip waveguides and lenses made of SU-8 and air are integrated to focus the light to different points in the channel. While some rootstock cultivars have shown tolerance to HLB, many of them do not produce adequate seed to meet existing or projected demand by Florida growers. Alternative rootstock propagation methods by tissue culture and cuttings enable production of large amounts of genetically identical plants and may be used to overcome seed supply limitations. However, the potential impact of rootstock propagation method on tree growth and water uptake is poorly understood. The objective of this study was to assess tree growth and water uptake via sap flow monitoring in rootstocks propagated by conventional and alternative propagation methods. A two-year study was conducted in Immokalee, Florida beginning in 2018. A split plot experimental design was arranged in which rootstock cultivar [US-802 (C. maxima × P. trifoliata), US-897 (C. reticulata × P. trifoliata), US-942 (C. reticulata × P. trifoliata), and Swingle (Citrus paradisi × Poncirus trifoliata)] was the main plot factor, while propagation method (seed, tissue culture, and cuttings) was the split-plot factor. Sap flow was monitored using heat ratio method sensors for a three-week period in 2018 and 2019. After completion of sap flow measurements in 2019, canopy volume and biomass were measured, together with wound diameter, sapwood volume, sapwood fresh and dry weight, position of outer sensor in sapwood, and bark and sapwood depth to calculate sap flow. Tree growth data indicate that neither rootstock cultivar nor propagation method affected tree canopy volume or biomass accumulation. The possibility of using trees propagated by different methods enables a quicker turnaround from citrus nurseries and will increase the availability of citrus trees on the most desired rootstocks in Florida.

A facile and cleanroom-free processing work flow involving a combination of high-resolution powder bed fusion and soft lithography was used to fabricate PDMS cantilevers (aspect ratio 20) with 150 µm × 150 µm microchannels on its surface. A high gauge factor of 55 (up to 5 times higher than reported in comparable piezoresistive flow sensors) was achieved using drop-casted GNP ink as the piezoresistive sensing element in the aforementioned microchannels. Finally, the use of the PDMS-graphene cantilever as an airflow sensor with enhanced sensitivity (20 times more than comparable piezoresistive cantilever sensors), low hysteresis, good repeatability, and bidirectional sensing capability was demonstrated. The device was fabricated in a custom GaN process, with an etching process to release a membrane made of the GaN stack. This membrane thermally isolates the hot-wire, increasing its thermal efficiency, which was measured to be 1.04°C/mW. Testing was performed at mass flow rates from 0-4 SLPM. The sensitivity of the device, driven in a constant current mode at 3 different zero-flow temperatures, was compared showing an increase in peak sensitivity of 67% at 250°C compared to 150°C.

The water flow switch, also called the water flow sensor, uses the magnetic repulsive force of a pair of permanent magnet floats and the impact force of the water flow to interact with the reed switch output switching signal (0/1), relying on the repulsive force between the permanent magnets. In this video I use the CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner to clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor in my 2006 Toyota Corolla. Make sure you wear the proper safety equipment and take all safety precautions while using the CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. My car was idling high and was idling rough so this was the first thing I wanted to try. For my car this worked and now my car is back to idling at normal RPM's. You do not want to use the CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner on vehicles with a Karman Vortex Air Flow Sensor. If you don't know if your vehicle has a Karman Vortex Air Flow Sensor you can call their technical support phone number that is listed on the can. I have another video where I show step by step how to remove the Mass Air Flow Sensor in my 2006 Toyota Corolla that I will link at the end of this video. As the CEO of Safe Heart, Yale has overseen the successful commercialization of research from Oxford University, Emory University, the successful raising of grants from the Atlantic Pediatric Device Consortium, and finally, in raising capital to initially fund a newly emerging business venture. Although Yale has achieved a certain level of success with his involvement in medical devices, his primary passion has always been transportation systems, specifically autonomous vehicles. Yale believes that ongoing technology research by many private and public companies will lead to car ownership reduction as vehicles become autonomous. When that happens, extraordinary opportunities arise for people to share vehicles. He joins SPLT with the intent to help change the behavior of people so that they are comfortable with sharing rides with other people so that everyone will be ready when the autonomous vehicle economy arrives.
