Feed additives are included into beef cattle feedlot diets with the objective to improve cattle growth and feed efficiency, resulting in enhanced productivity and profitability in feedlot. The objective of this research was to evaluate the impacts of supplementing a yeast-derived product, Celmanax, during the finishing period on performance, physiological responses, and carcass quality of feedlot cattle. Including Celmanax into finishing diets containing monensin did not result in additional benefits on cattle performance or carcass traits. Celmanax could be tested as a natural feed additive alternative to monensin with the objective to improve animal growth performance and health in a complete natural diet.

After the death of Richard Cameron, Donald Cargill was the only field preacher left in Scotland. Cargill was born in 1627. He went to university in St Andrews where he read and re-read the books of John Knox and Andrew Melville. However the biggest influence on his life was his tutor, Samuel Rutherford. In 1655 he became minister of the Barony Church in Glasgow. Two years after the Restoration of Charles II Cargill got into trouble for preaching against the king and had to go into hiding. He had to go into hiding, but kept preaching in the fields. After the Covenanters’ victory at Drumclog, Cargill rushed to join those preparing to fight at Bothwell Bridge. Cargill was badly wounded in the battle and left for dead. However, he survived, went to Holland for a while, and then came back to join Richard Cameron in preaching in the fields throughout Scotland. Cargill preached Cameron’s funeral service, and then held a massive meeting at Torwood where in the name of Jesus Christ he excommunicated the king, Charles II – the highest punishment of the church. The government now became more determined to catch Cargill than ever, and offered a large amount of money to anyone who would catch him, dead or alive. He was finally captured in July 1681, found guilty of treason and hanged in Edinburgh. Just before he died, Cargill wrote: “This is the most joyful day that I ever saw in my pilgrimage on earth. My joy is now begun, which I see shall never be interrupted.” He had complete confidence that all his sins had been forgiven by Christ, and so he was not afraid to die. House Speaker Lance Cargill resigned that post today just a week before the 2008 Legislature convenes. Cargill, at 36 the youngest House speaker in the nation, took the action following another embarrassing revelation, this one that he failed to pay taxes on his Harrah law firm in timely fashion. That followed an earlier revelation that he had failed to file his personal income taxes in timely fashion. Those reports followed the revelation that Cargill and other top Republicans attended a Mike Huckabee fundraiser at the Dallas home of controversial businessman Gene Phillips, key figure in the scandal that drove former Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher, a Democrat, from office. A House committee last year approved a measure that would benefit Fisher's business interests; the bill died however, in the House. Cargill also faces an Ethics Commission probe into how checks payable to one GOP political action committee wound up deposited into the account of another entity.

The Governor of Missouri, Jay Nixon, stopped by Cargill Dec. 18th, 2012 to thank them for expanding and adding more Missouri jobs.

Our keynote speaker is Davie Philip - a Scottish activist who's been advocating for sustainable community in Ireland for over 20 years. Yale Zhang is the founder of hardware start-up Safe Heart, which develops innovative wellness applications, hardware, and accessories. Their flagship product iOximeter is the first pulse oximeter to work on Android and iOS platforms, and a recent finalist on the Engadget Insert Coin competition. The iOximeter is a vital signs monitoring tool for smart phones. It is powered through the phone audio jack. Current features of the app include measurements of the oxygen saturation and heart rate, recording, and alarm functionality. Presentation will go over the conception, research, development, and commercialization of the iOximeter product. Future functionality road map will be revealed. A Q&A session will be held afterwards. The presentation will conclude with a live demo and a device giveaway.

The insight into these transportation entities allowed Yale to leave and in 2007 start Clinical Guard, his first product distribution company, in medical supplies. The company has grown from an initial annual revenue of $400K to now $3M. Later, he started a medical device innovations company, Safe Heart USA, Inc, focused on creating vital signs monitoring hardware that works in coordination with smartphones running Android and iOS. As the CEO of Safe Heart, Yale has overseen the successful commercialization of research from Oxford University, Emory University, the successful raising of grants from the Atlantic Pediatric Device Consortium, and finally, in raising capital to initially fund a newly emerging business venture. Although Yale has achieved a certain level of success with his involvement in medical devices, his primary passion has always been transportation systems, specifically autonomous vehicles. Yale believes that ongoing technology research by many private and public companies will lead to car ownership reduction as vehicles become autonomous. When that happens, extraordinary opportunities arise for people to share vehicles. He joins SPLT with the intent to help change the behavior of people so that they are comfortable with sharing rides with other people so that everyone will be ready when the autonomous vehicle economy arrives.
